One of my Favourite Newfoundlandisms

Here is a new feature for the blog: "Favourite Newfoundlandisms"

Today's winner is:

"I am so hungry, I could eat the arse off a low flying duck"

What are some of your favourite Newfoundland quotes or popular sayings?

Well, of course, there's Oh Me Nerves!.

However, here's another. I don't know if it is specific to Nfld, but I have only ever heard it there.

"I'm sweatin' like a hen haulin' wood!"

Bas's old saying and one of my favorites...

"The fish is eating the rocks" is, of course, an old one that is longer used much, unfortunately.

I previously posted about Sandra’s Newfoundland Sayings, which contains lots of sayings.

What about "I'm so hungry I could eat the leg off the lamb of God?"

My favourite at home is "a smack in the gob wi' a glammy mawler." but when I'm talking to folks not from Newfoundland, I like to ask them if they can puzzle out the meaning of "What's after happening now?"

For a good sense of the reaction, check out Alan Hawco on Strombo "How to Talk Like a Newfoundlander"

Hilarious.
