A thousand bucks for every baby?

Most politicians simply kiss babies, or take the obligatory picture with one. Smile for the camera! But our Danny takes that old election ploy one step further- he is bribing them before they are even born!

Yes the election promise made by Williams on Tuesday means parents would get $1,000 for every child they have in an effort to combat a sagging birth rate and mass outmigration that has sapped the province.

Hey Danny, come here for a second! Now listen close, I need to explain something to your ass:

Most Newfoundlanders would give their left tit (or nut as the case may be) to live and work on the Rock. They are not leaving because they want to- they have to. They search for work that pays them a fair wage. Work that is stable. Work in a province that can offer their children opportunity, a future. Unless you can offer this to Newfoundlanders, they will continue to leave. They will take that $1000 bucks, and save it for a plane ticket to Alberta, to Ontario, heck, even to Korea.

But they can’t stay in a province that offers them so little in the ways to make a life. No matter how much they want to.

Here here! You said it mama!

I'd love to move back. I'd love to see some sort of initiative that encourages re-patriation, job creation, salary parity etc...

The title of you blog says it. There are many of us out there Missing the Rock but must leave to support our families now and offer them opportunity down the road.

the 1,000 dollars would be no doubt good for anyone who has a child, married or single. my wife and i chose many years ago only to have one.we both work in the home care system of the province and have been considering leaving. the top reason is $$$$, our pay here is far lower then we deserve but the government does not seem to realize that fact.instead of offering us an incentive in the form of a wage hike and help keep us in the province they come up with a scheme like this!

Who knows....maybe if Hebron helps get us on our feet Newfoundland just might become the next land of opportunity.

On a side note I get the feeling that the blogger has something against Danny Williams....not sure....just a feeling.....care to comment Ms "Missing the Rock"?

I wish there was something we could do about it.

Steve; I don't seem able to post to your blog from work.

What?!?!? Can't post to my blog from work? Then you march right into the Tech Support team's office and demand that they fix the problem this instant!

:-)

Must be the incredibly provocative content that I have on there. They've filtered me out!

Oh me nerves!

Thanks Donna! I doubt the telegram knows my page exists, there are so many good blogs out there. I would like to see you blog, but I can't link to it through your profile.

Nadine, I don't have a blog, Steve is wanting me to have one. Someday maybe I will get one going. For now, I enjoy reading "Ohmenerves", "Flip or Fantasy" and "Missing the Rock". I need to check out the other links Steve has. Keep up the great postings Nadine.

Thankfully, there are others out there that see the light.
I agree that $1000 is great for any family expecting a child, but I honestly feel that this will just provide another reason for people, who are much too young, to continue to breed. "Just hand me the grand Danny, and I'll give proof of a child...".
